I, the Lord, Have Spoken

God spoke in ancient times, and He speaks today. His voice is heard, not audibly all the time, only sometimes to certain people. Hebrews chapter one says, “In many separate revelations and in different ways God spoke of old to [our] forefathers in and by the prophets. But in the last of these days He has spoken to us in [the person of a] Son, Whom He appointed Heir and lawful Owner of all things, also by and through He created the worlds and the reaches of space and the ages of time. He is the sole expression of the glory of God and He is the perfect imprint and very image of [God’s] nature, upholding and maintaining and guiding and propelling the universe by His mighty word of power”. (Heb. 1:1-3).

A few years back, I heard His audible voice telling me to “Read this in My Word every day.” I heard Him as I was wakening up from a nap. The passage was Matthew 24:37-47. We have been reading it since then and even have memorized it. He speaks to us in any way He chooses, when not through His Word- the Bible. So, says the Lord, “Is not My word like fire? And like a hammer that breaks in pieces the rock [of most stubborn resistance?” (Jer.23:29); the Prophet Jeremiah said, “If I say, I will not make mention of the Lord] or speak any more in His name, in my mind and heart it is as if there were a burning fire shut up in my bones. And I am weary of enduring and holding it in. I cannot [contain it any longer]” (Jer. 20:9).

God has spoken and speaks to us through His Son, YAHSHUA. He is the Word of God; all that is created, He created by the words of His mouth. He is, according to Hebrew, “The perfect imprint and very image of [God’s] nature, upholding and maintaining and guiding and propelling the universe by His mighty word of power.” YAHSHUA is the voice of His Father. When He spoke to the multitude and to His disciples, that was God speaking through Him. He revealed to His disciples that they were His friends, because He has made known to them everything that He had heard from His Father; and He said, “Believe Me that I am in the Father and the Father in Me; or else believe Me for the sake of the works themselves” (John 15:15; 14:11). The incarnated God spoke directly to the people of those days; He spoke clearly and plainly for all to understand the message and explained the parables to them. His death and resurrection were the most powerful silent expressive words of love. His beaten body, covered with His blood, with a crown of thorns causing read tears of love for the world, yes, He has spoken!

When Samuel was a young boy, living in the temple with Eli the priest, he heard his name being called, but he did not know it was God’s voice, since that time the word of God was rare. Not one time did God call Him, but three times. Thinking that Eli had called him, he went to him, saying, “Here am I; you did call me”. (I Sam. 3:6). The Bible says that Samuel did not yet know the Lord, and the word of the Lord was not yet revealed to him (vs.7). The third time when the Lord called Samuel, the priest then realized that that was the voice of the Lord calling him. Then he said, “if He calls you again, you shall say, speak, Lord, for Your servant is listening” (vs.10). On the fourth time that the Lord called Samuel, he then answered as Eli told him; and the Lord revealed to Samuel His plan of judgment against the house of Eli the priest.

On the road to Damascus, Paul enraged against Christians of his day, set forth to Damascus to persecute them.  Now, as he traveled on, he came near to Damascus, and suddenly a Light from heaven flashed around him; He fell to the ground, then he heard a voice saying to him, “Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting Me?  Trembling and astonished, he asked, Lord, what do You desire me to do? The Lord said to him, But arise and go into the city and you will be told what you must do” (Acts 9:1-4,6). God spoke, and Paul listened. The results we see in all his letters. “I the Lord have spoken” today, “then while it is called today, if you would hear His voice and when you hear it, do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion [in the desert, when the people provoked and irritated and embittered God against them]. For who were they who heard and yet were rebellious and provoked [Him]? Was it not all those who came out of Egypt let by Moses”? (Heb. 3:15-16).  The Lord continues warning us even today reminding us that He has spoken and we are without excuses and dammed to eternal punishment. So, do not harden your heart, at the voice of God while it is still today. That’s all you have.
