Ten Virgins and Their Lamps at the Mid-Night Shout

Time and circumstance allowed them to be together waiting for their bridegroom- YAHSHUA. Collectively, they waited for Him, but individually only the wise ones were ready to meet Him, because they had a relationship with Him. So, when the shout was heard announcing the arrival of the bridegroom, it was from that relationship that the wise virgins had their lamps ready. Even though all ten virgins heard the warning: Behold the Bridegroom! Go out to meet Him! The foolish ones could not go to meet the Bridegroom – their lamps had no oil, for they did not have a relationship with their Bridegroom.  They hurried to remediate the problem, but it was too late. The door of mercy was closed on them. They knocked, one by one. They cried, Lord open the door!  I never knew you, was His answer to them. But how was it possible? They went to church every time its door was opened, so what separated the foolish virgins from the wise ones? The Oil, my friends, the Oil.

Even though oil is a common thing used everywhere in the kitchen or in the house, it not only has physical benefits in its uses, but also has spiritual benefits and meaning. Oil in the spiritual realm is of great significance for the believer to consider. Oil is a symbol of our dearest friend, the Holy Spirit- a Gift from YAHSHUA to all who believes in Him, when He ascended to heaven. The Holy Spirit, as a symbol of oil, illuminates the way and erases all darkness from the believers’ life. The foolish virgins lacked the most important thing: the seal that defined and separated them for the Lord and from the world. Reality sank in when their lamps, empty of oil, kept them from meeting their Bridegroom. They had not been sealed for that hour- the seal of the Holy Spirit guaranteeing them salvation. Life for them was a little slumber here, a little there without provision for their encounter with the Bridegroom.  They ate, they drank, they went to church, in a supposed Christian life style, and they bought and sold all in a normal way of life. However, the shout made the difference. It was the shout that awoke all of them. The wise virgins, being prepared, knew what to do; the foolish tried to act in their usual way, but this time it didn’t work. No longer would they depend on the light of others. This encounter was going to be personal encounter with the Bridegroom. Sadly, they had nothing to show forth that proved their relationship with the bridegroom. The foolish ones had lamps, yes, but they were empty. No oil to shine the way to meet the One waited for. They panicked and asked the wise ones to share of their oil. No way, they said, lest it lack for us too, you go and get some for yourselves, too late a solution to remedy their situation. They went nonetheless, just to find the door closed on their return.  “Lord, open the door!”  They cried. The answer came: “I don’t know you!” You see, there should never be a need for the true bride of Christ to knock at His door, for He is in her and she is in Him.

The new birth into the family of God is one that happens by water and the Spirit. YAHSHUA said, Unless a man is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. What is born of the flesh is flesh; and what is born of the Spirit is spirit. Marvel not at My telling you, You must be born anew (John 3:5-7. The true birth into the family of God is one that happens by water and the Spirit. YAHSHUA said, Unless a man is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. What is born of the flesh is flesh; and what is born of the Spirit is spirit. Marvel not at My telling you, You must be born anew (John 3:5-7).  That’s what was lacking in the lives of the foolish virgins They were not born of the Spirit. There was no oil in them- the shinning that would have led them to heaven.  To look like, does not make it to be. It might fool men, but not God. The presence of the Holy Spirit gives us all that are necessary to live a holy, and pleasing life to God. He is life and a giver of life; He is our Counselor, Helper, our Advocate, Intercessor, our strengthener- the Stand by, our Teacher; He will convict and convince the world of sin (John 15-16). He is the Oil that gives life to our spirit. Without Him, we are dead and separated from God. The wind blows where it wills, said YAHSHUA; and though you hear its sound, yet you neither know where it comes from nor where it is going. So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit (John 3:5-8). The word Pneuma (wind) is the same word used for Spirit. The process of the new birth is through cleansing and by the Spirit of God reviving our spirit. He is felt, but He is not visible. He acts, but we do not see Him.  Without His presence in our life, we are but foolish virgins, in vain waiting for Him, undressed of His righteousness. Self-righteousness is of no value in God’s eyes. Paul said to the Corinthians: If any person is in Christ he is a new creation; the old has passed away. Behold, the fresh and new has come! (II Cor. 5:17).  That’s what it means when YAHSHUA said, what is born of the flesh is flesh; and what is born of the Spirit is spirit.

The new birth is an act of the Holy Spirit. If anyone claims to be a Christian, but has never gone through the new birth, he is not born of heaven or of the Holy Spirit. One proof of the new birth is found in I john 3: 9: No one who is born of God will continue to sin, because God’s Seed remains in him; he cannot go on sinning because he has been born of God.  The five foolish virgins had righteousness of their own. Their lamps could never be filled with it, for it is the righteousness of God imputed to us that fills our lamps with the holy Oil – His Spirit. They were not visible to God, for they did not have His Spirit in them. When God looks at a born again person, He sees His Son, and His righteousness imputed to him. It is by His grace that we are saved; it is not based on what we do.  Where do you stand my friend, outside knocking at the door, or inside with the Bridegroom?  Search your heart today, and do not be found begging to go in. Your chance is now, not after the fact.
