One Out of Ten

Samaria, once belonging to the tribe of Ephraim, was a city established as a capital of the northern kingdom of Israel. Located on a mountain ridge northwest of Shechem in route to Jerusalem and Galilee. After Israel’s exile, Samaria was resettled with foreignness, who intermarried them and brought with them their pagan gods. That is the reason why they were considered a mongrel race. But with YAHSHUA, we are all sinners and alienated from God. God loved this Samaritan as much as those Jews. At that day, the Samaritan not only received physical healing, but spiritual healing, on his second encounter with Messiah YAHSHUA, while the other nine lepers were only physically cleaned.

One out of ten represents a small number of people who will acknowledge God’s goodness in their daily lives. God has blessed us with blessings upon blessings, gift upon gifts, but we are still not satisfied, to lift our hands and bend our knees in gratitude to worship Him. The nation of Israel represented by those nine lepers, even though healed and cleansed, they did not accept their Messiah. The signs He performed in their midst, were signs that showed Him to be the promised Messiah, but their eyes were closed to the fact. Instead, they received the gifts of healing and continued walking away from Him, in an attitude of pride and rejection. Spiritual leprosy continues following them as long as they continue in their indifference toward YAHSHUA as their Messiah. Isaiah describes the spiritual condition of the nation as saying, From the sole of the foot even to the head there is no soundness or health in but wounds and bruises and fresh and bleeding stripes; they have not been pressed out and closed up or bound up or softened with oil. The Lord God invites them saying, Come now, and let us reason together, says the Lord. Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red like crimson, they shall be like wool (Isaiah 1: 6, 18).

As the nine turned away from their Messiah and Healer, they made the decision to continue in the path of rejection of Him, missing the most important part of their healing: the relationship with God. Weeping, YAHSHUA called the nation to a relationship exclaiming, Would that you had known personally, even at least in this your day, the things that make for peace! But now they are hidden from your eyes…O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who continue to kill the prophets and to stone those who are sent to you! How often I have desired and yearned to gather your children together, as a hen her young under her wings, but you would not! (Luke 19: 42; 13: 34). I am sure that our Lord YAHSHUA still weeps for his people today. His love has never ceased toward them.  But Israel has to be willing to be healed from their spiritual leprosy. Just like those ten lepers who came to Him, Israel must take the first step by calling on His name for their healing.

My friend, are you in the ten percent of those who when had been saved, gave their life to serve the Savior, or are you in the majority, who rejected YAHSHUA’S gift of life? The Samaritan left Him completely renewed from inside out. He left Him with the gift of eternal life, a beautiful destiny forever saved and rewarded with a home in heaven. Life here is transitory and without meaning, without eternal salvation.
