Rejected by His own
Betrayed and denied by His friends
He carried the cross
Before He received His crown
To Him was given a thorny crown
Which pierced His flesh
While He carried man’s cross
To receive His crown
Crucified we are with Him
In obedience following the steps
That lead to Calvary
So we may receive our crown
Through the valleys and deserts
Through the mountains of joy
With self-denial until death
We will receive our crown
Through the narrow gate
We must go
Carrying our cross following Him
Not I but Christ
Our strength to persevere
Until the end
When finally He trades
Our cross for our crown
For it is not ours but His
Through Him we were saved
Honor and glory will be His
While we give Him our crown.
